No signal from the console, or only if you hold the cable

HDMI · Symptom guide
The console powers on and the television says no signal, or the picture only appears if you hold the cable at an angle.
The HDMI port is soldered to the mainboard and takes every bit of leverage from the cable. People trip over leads, consoles get knocked off shelves, and the port bends or its pins break. It is a repairable part, not a dead console.
Check this before you buy anything
-
Swap the HDMI cable
Cheapest possible test and genuinely often the answer.
-
Try a different port and a different TV
Rules out the television rather than the console.
-
Look into the port with a torch
Bent or missing pins are visible to the naked eye. If you can see damage, you have your answer.
-
Check whether wiggling the cable brings the picture back
That is a mechanical fault in the port, not a board failure.
If every one of those comes back clean, now it is worth buying a part.
If that did not fix it, here is the part
PS5 HDMI Port$12.99
PS4 HDMI Port (Fat)$12.99
PS4 Pro / Slim HDMI Port$12.99
Xbox Series X HDMI Port$19.99
Xbox Series S HDMI Port$19.99
Xbox One X HDMI Port$12.99
Xbox One S HDMI Port$12.99
HDMI Cable, High Speed$5.99
Before you order
Every console model uses a different port. PS4 Fat, PS4 Pro and Slim, PS5, Xbox One S, One X, Series S and Series X are all separate parts. This is a surface mount soldering job with hot air, not a beginner repair.
What this is not
If the console does not power on at all, or shows a blue or white light of death, the HDMI port is not your problem.
