Game Gear with no sound, or a screen that stays black?
Every Game Gear needs a recap eventually - not most, every one. The original capacitors leak onto the board and take the audio out first, then the video. A Game Gear that powers on with sound but no picture, or picture but no sound, is almost always this and nothing else.
This is the VA4 board set. Check your revision before you buy - the board is marked inside the shell, and VA0/VA1 takes a different set. Leaked electrolyte also eats traces, so inspect for corrosion while you are in there.
