When a PS3 controller starts drifting, walking a character on its own, or feeling loose and mushy under the thumb, the problem is almost never the rubber cap. It is the potentiometer module underneath. This is a direct replacement 3-pin joystick assembly for the DualShock 3 and Sixaxis. It is the full module: the stick stem, the housing and both potentiometers, ready to solder onto the board.
What this fixes
- Stick drift, where the character or camera moves with nothing touching the stick
- Dead zones or a stick that will not reach full range in one direction
- A loose, wobbly or gritty-feeling stick
- A snapped stem where the thumbstick cap broke off

Does not fit
PS4 and PS5 controllers use a different module with a different pin layout. We stock those separately.
How to install
- Open the controller (five Phillips screws) and lift the board out.
- Desolder the old module. There are 14 solder points per stick, so a desoldering pump or wick makes this much easier.
- Seat the new assembly flush against the board and solder every pin.
- Reassemble and test both axes in the PS3 controller settings menu.
This is a soldering job, not a snap-in part. Budget 20 to 30 minutes if you have done board work before.

Common questions
Does this include the rubber thumbstick cap? No, this is the module only. Your original cap presses back onto the new stem. If your cap is also worn, grab a set of PS3 joystick covers too.
Can I install this without soldering? No. The module is soldered to the main board. If you are not set up for soldering, a local repair shop can usually do this in under an hour with the part supplied.
Will this fix drift for good? It fixes the current drift. Standard potentiometer sticks do wear out again with heavy use, the same as the originals, but a fresh module is good for years of normal play.
