A DualShock 2 or Xbox 360 controller that drifts, walks the character on its own, or feels loose and will not snap back to center has a worn potentiometer module, not a bad rubber cap. This is a direct replacement 3-pin joystick assembly that fits both the PS2 DualShock 2 and the Xbox 360 controller. Same module, same solder footprint. It is the full unit: stick stem, housing and both potentiometers, ready to solder onto the board. This is the upgraded build with an OEM color-matched stem.
What this fixes
- Stick drift with nothing touching the controller
- Dead zones or a stick that will not reach full range in one direction
- A loose, wobbly or gritty-feeling stick
- A snapped stem where the thumbstick cap broke off
What you get
Sold as a single assembly, which replaces one stick. The 2 Pack does both sides on one controller.
Fits
- PS2 DualShock 2 controller (SCPH-10010), all revisions
- Xbox 360 wireless controller, all revisions
- Xbox 360 wired controller
Does not fit
PS3, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series controllers use different modules with different pin layouts. We stock those separately.
How to install
- Open the controller and lift the main board out.
- Desolder the old module. There are 14 solder points per stick, so a desoldering pump or wick makes this much easier.
- Seat the new assembly flush against the board and solder every pin.
- Reassemble and test both axes before closing the shell fully.
Soldering job, not a snap-in part. Plan on 20 to 30 minutes if you have done board work before.

Common questions
Does this include the rubber thumbstick cap? No, this is the module only. Your original cap presses back onto the new stem. If the cap is worn too, add a set of Xbox 360 joystick covers.
Can I install this without soldering? No. The module is soldered to the main board. A local repair shop can usually do the swap in under an hour with the part supplied.
Are the PS2 and Xbox 360 sticks really the same? Yes. Both controllers use the same 3-pin potentiometer module with the same footprint, which is why this one part covers both.
