Email usThe full rundown
A PS2 Slim that spins a disc and then gives up has a tired laser. It is the single most common failure on these consoles, and it is a part swap rather than a board repair.
What this fixes
- Discs that spin and then show Disc Read Error
- Games that load but skip or freeze partway
- Blue discs (PS1 games) failing while silver DVDs still work, or the reverse
- A console that only reads a disc if you tilt or tap it
Before you order
Check the model number on the base of the console. This is for the SCPH-70000 Slim. Later Slim revisions and the fat PS2 use different assemblies, and the laser is not interchangeable between them.
Fits
- PlayStation 2 Slim, SCPH-70000
Does not fit
Fat PS2 consoles, and Slim revisions other than the 70000 series.

Common questions
Will this definitely fix my disc errors? Usually. Clean the old lens with isopropyl first - if that briefly improves things, the laser is the problem and this is the fix. If the disc never spins at all, look at the spindle motor instead.
Do I need to adjust a potentiometer? No. Fit the replacement as it comes and test before reassembling.
