GameCube spinning discs but refusing to read them?
Before you buy a whole replacement laser, check the caps on the laser assembly board. They are a known failure point, and when they go the laser cannot hold focus - discs spin up, the drive hunts, and you get a read error on a disc that works fine in another console.
This set recaps the laser board. It is a cheap thing to try before an expensive thing, and on a lot of GameCubes it is the whole fix. SMD soldering required.
