Email usThe full rundown
The charging port is the number one hardware failure on a Game Boy Advance SP. Two decades of the barrel plug being pushed in, pulled out and knocked sideways works the jack loose from the board, until the console only charges when the cable is held just right, then stops charging at all. This is a direct replacement charging port for the GBA SP. Solder it in and the system charges normally again.
What this fixes
- Orange charge light only comes on when the cable is wiggled or propped up
- No charge at all with a known-good charger
- Loose, rattling or wobbly port
- Bent or pushed-in port from a drop
- A console that runs fine on a charger but will not hold any charge
What you get
Sold as a single port. One is all a GBA SP needs.
Fits
- Game Boy Advance SP, model AGS-001, the frontlit original
- Game Boy Advance SP, model AGS-101, the brighter backlit revision
Both revisions use the same port, so you do not need to know which one you have before ordering.
Does not fit
The Game Boy Micro and the Nintendo DS and DS Lite use different ports. The original Game Boy Advance (AGB-001) runs on AA batteries and has no charging port at all.
How to install
- Open the SP. You need a tri-wing driver for the shell and a Phillips for the board screws.
- Disconnect the battery and lift the main board out.
- Desolder the old port and clean the pads with wick before fitting the new one.
- Seat the new port flush, solder the pins and the anchor tabs, and check for bridges.
- Reassemble and confirm the orange charge light with a charger plugged in.
Soldering job on a small board. If you are not set up for it, a local repair shop can usually fit this in under an hour with the part supplied.

Common questions
Is it the port or the battery? If the orange light comes on when you hold the cable at an angle, it is the port. If it charges fine but dies quickly once unplugged, it is the battery. We stock GBA SP batteries separately.
Do I need to know if mine is AGS-001 or AGS-101? No. The port is the same in both.
Can I do this without soldering? No. The port is soldered directly to the main board, so there is no drop-in version of this repair.
Is this an original Nintendo part? No, it is a third-party replacement built to the original footprint.
